Why Ease of Connectivity Matters to End-Users

Matt Baum

When the industry talks about cable and connectivity, these conversations are often geared toward installers, integrators and consultants. Why? Because many end-users don't get too involved with the details of their network infrastructure. Once it's in place, they may handle moves, adds and changes (MACs) - but it doesn't go much farther than that. The average IT team doesn't have the time, resources or know-how to learn termination processes for different devices and connections. Instead, they often have to call in professionals to do this work.

But, as with many things in the information and communications industry, we’re seeing a shift. Because of the quick pace of technology, some end-users need to be able to make changes and add devices to their networks quickly – without having to wait for technicians or installers to pay them a visit. With more devices – and more types of devices – connecting to enterprise networks than ever before, deployment speed is becoming paramount.

If you’re an end-user, there are a few questions you should ask yourself before you decide to take on this responsibility:

  • Do you want to change out endpoint devices yourself? Or do you want to bring in (and pay) skilled installers to change them out for you?
  • If you do want to change out endpoint devices yourself, do you have the time and resources to train employees on how to make it happen?
  • Do you have the right termination tools laying around?

Ease of connectivity is truly starting to matter to end-users – not just installers – because they’re starting to do some of this hands-on work (or will be doing so in the future).

As more devices connect to networks, end-users will need to be able to add more wireless access points as needed. Waiting on installers to arrive to do this could lead to poor connectivity and dropped connections until the work can be done, impacting productivity and efficiency.

We kept all of this in mind when we reimagined our latest connectivity system. The end result is a termination process that end-users can handle on their own, making the rollout of new technology - and moves, adds and changes - easier, faster and more cost effective. It's the ultimate in ease of connectivity!

Here’s how REVConnect® is different when it comes to ease of connectivity for end-users …

  • A termination process that anyone can learn in about 15 minutes. This means that no elaborate training is necessary. Anyone on an internal IT or technology team can quickly get up to speed without investing in courses or lengthy, hands-on education. There's also no need to separate pairs. Once one person on your team knows the process, it's easy for him or her to show everyone else how to complete it.

  • Switch back and forth from a jack, plug or coupler without having to re-terminate the cable. This makes reconfiguration easy and lets you quickly and easily move devices to set up your technology however it's most convenient - shifting things around when necessary without the need to call in a professional.

  • Connect any type of device to your network that utilizes an RJ45 connection. This includes digital signage, AV equipment, surveillance cameras, occupancy sensors, POS kiosks, access control, building management systems, videoconferencing systems, nurse call systems, VoIP phones, wireless access points and PoE LED light fixtures. You don’t need to call in an installer to connect these devices to your network, saving time and money. No matter what you’re connecting or how you’re connecting it, the termination process is exactly the same.

  • You won't need to invest in special termination tools and find a place to store them. This termination process utilizes just one universal tool from start to finish.
